Leah’s Hope started from the heart of two women wanting to help a friend establish her own independence and grow closer to Christ.
The mission of Leah's Hope is to empower families to change their future.
Our MISSIONAL HEART is to help families experience Christ-centered success through the provision of family-strengthening resources; to help them develop competency and strength in seven areas: Spiritual, Emotional, Relational, Financial, Physical, Intellectual and Vocational by providing mentoring, training, and practical experience in these areas all while sharing the love of Christ.
Our PURPOSE is to provide comprehensive support services based on Christian values to families. When those families are in times of crisis, we will assist them with transition into successful community living. We plan to create a healing and healthy environment conducive to growth for the individual and family unit as the parent(s) works toward sustainable Independence.
Since its inception, Leah’s Hope has assisted roughly 100 individuals in our community. Currently, we have five women and twelve children participating in the program. Our goal is to expand and increase our community impact in the coming year. On average, it costs $250/person to provide living expenses including rent, utilities, insurance and sundries. Currently, we are limited to four housing units. But with your help, we can offer more help.
We are excited to partner with Focus on Home to furnish our housing units for our clients.
Focus on Home is based in Del City and serves families in Oklahoma county. Focus on Home furnishes homes for families who have experienced homelessness. They work to make the new living space a HOME! The work they do is phenomenal, and we are so grateful to have them bless the families at Leah's Hope! Every piece of furniture was donated and each bed has a brand new mattress. Who is Leah?
God called Abraham and Sarah to follow Him and used them to found a new nation. Their grandson, Jacob, was the father of what we know as the 12 Tribes of Israel, the historic roots of God's chosen people. Often forgotten in Jacob's story is that Leah was the mother of six of those tribes, including the tribe of Judah, from whom King David and Jesus Christ were descended.
Leah was Jacob's first wife. Her father, Laban, swindled Jacob into marrying her rather than Leah's sister, Rachel, the desired one. An interpretation of Leah's name and history is that of one who is weary. Her story of not being chosen, of being rejected, motivated our naming of Leah's Hope. Our interest is to invest in and bring hope to the lives of those who are weary, who have and are feeling the weight of rejection.
Genesis 29:31 states: "When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive." Leah's Hope is called to show God's love to women with children, to families who have experienced trauma, to open up a window of hope for the conception and flourishing of God's blessings in their lives.
